Our Container and Cargo Examination Facilities (CEF) have been highly successful since the first CEF opened in November 2002.

Total seizures for the period 1 November 2002 to 30 June 2014 include:

Drugs

14,597 kg of stimulants and hallucinogens including:

  • 1,175 kg of heroin
  • 1,756 kg of MDMA (ecstasy)
  • 418 litres of liquid ecstasy
  • 2,502 kg of crystal methylamphetamine (ICE)
  • 2,290 kg of cocaine

4,809 kg and 11.575 litres of precursor drugs including:

  • 2,114 kg of pseudoephedrine
  • 1,093 kg of ephedrine
  • 1,050 kg of piperonal
  • 10,973 litres of hypophosphorous acid
  • 600 litres of benzaldehyde

Tobacco

  • Over 5921,500,000 cigarette sticks
  • 1,586 tonnes of tobacco
  • 796 kg of cannabinoids
  • 4002 kg of kava

Firearms

  • 90,337 counts of ammunition
  • 10,106 replica firearms
  • 22 counts of firearms
  • 24,702 counts of knives, martial arts weapons, laser pointers

There have also been large numbers of detections in relation to copyright, trademark, undeclared goods, quarantine and firearms breaches.
