New B709X and B709DA forms

Form B709X

The B709X can only be used for goods subject to the Police certification test. It was introduced in 2015 to enable Police registries to provide confirmation in writing that residents of their jurisdiction do not require licencing for the goods listed, and allow for ongoing importation of those goods without the need for the registry to issue a B709B confirmation for every individual importation.

Note: It is the importer’s responsibility to confirm if the goods they want to import are covered by the B709X in their state or territory.

The B709B form will still be available for use with goods subject to the Police certification test, but will continue to require issue on an individual importation basis.

Form use

A B709X form tells us that:

  • the police will allow all residents in their jurisdiction to possess the goods listed on the B709X form
  • no license, permission or authorisation is required to possess the goods for residents of their jurisdiction
  • we can release the goods to any resident after the applicant has met any other import requirements (such as payment of fees or duty).

Forms  B709X and B709B are important because without them, we cannot release goods and they will be detained and/or seized.

Form B709DA

The B709DA form was introduced in 2015 to enable police registries to provide confirmation in writing that firearms dealers of their jurisdiction hold the licencing for the goods listed, and allow for importation of those goods without the need for the registry to issue a B709A or B709D certification for every individual importation.  The B709DA can only be used for goods subject to the Police certification test.
The B709A and B709D Forms will still be available for use with goods subject to the Police certification test, but will continue to require issue on an individual importation basis.

Form use

A B709DA form tells that:

  • the police will allow the dealer licenced in their jurisdiction to possess the goods listed on the B709DA Form;
  • a license, permission or authorisation is held for the goods, or that one is not required to possess the goods in their jurisdiction; and
    • ABF can release the goods to the firearms dealer once the applicant has complied with the requirement to provide a detailed list of all the firearms and related goods, including make, model and serial numbers and met any other import requirements (such as payment of fee’s or duty).

Forms B709A, B709D or B709DA are important because without them, we cannot release firearms related goods and they will be detained and/or seized.
