Can I wear my glasses, sunglasses or a hat when using arrivals SmartGate?

As arrivals SmartGate uses face recognition technology to compare your image with your ePassport photograph, it is important that your face and head are uncovered so you look as much like your passport photograph as possible. Sunglasses, hats, veils, scarves, and any other headgear which obscures your facial features in any way should be removed.

Prescription glasses can be left on if you are wearing them in your passport photograph and if the rims are relatively thin. Thick rimmed glasses can affect arrivals SmartGate’s ability to compare your image with your ePassport photograph, so it is better to remove them, if possible.
