I'm travelling with Australian children who are younger than 16 years of age, can I use arrivals SmartGate?

You may be able to. Australian children aged 10 to 15 years (inclusive) can use arrivals SmartGate if:

  • they hold an ePassport
  • they are accompanied by a minimum of two adults
  • the ‘first and last’ process order is used.

The ‘first and last’ process order aims to avoid children and teenagers potentially becoming separated from the adults they are travelling with. The ‘first and last’ process order requires one adult to present and clear through arrivals SmartGate, followed by the 10-15 year old child (or children, if multiple) and then the second adult. For example, the first adult is processed, then the child, then the second adult or the first adult is processed, then the first child, then the second child, then the second adult.

Alternatively, if you want to be processed as a family group by a Border Force officer, you will need to join the manual processing queue.
