The Australian Embassy in Addis Ababa has no visa function. Our office in Nairobi, Kenya, manages visa and citizenship services for clients in Kenya, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Cameroon, Central African Republic, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Djibouti, Equatorial Guinea, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Gabon, Ghana, Mali, Mauritania, Niger, Republic of Congo, South Sudan, Rwanda, Somalia, Tanzania and Uganda.

It has a Service Delivery Partner (SDP) agreement with TLScontact to provide Australian visa lodgement and biometric collection services in Ethiopia through an Australian Visa Application Centre.

Payment information

Visa applications may be lodged at the Australian Visa Application Centres. Methods of payment accepted at are available on their website.

We accept payments in United States dollars (USD) or Kenyan Shillings. If you are mailing or couriering your application, do not send cash through the post.

Credit Card​

Payments using credit card will be processed in Australian dollars (AUD). We accept MasterCard, Visa, AMEX, Diners and JCB. When paying by a credit card you may incur a credit card surcharge, banking and currency conversion fees and you will need to accept the risk associated with any currency fluctuations.​​​​​

Prior to lodging your application, you may need to notify your bank of an upcoming foreign credit card transaction. Failure to do so may result in your transaction being declined. Without payment your application is invalid.

Credit card transactions processed in Australian dollars (AUD) are processed in Australia.​​​​​ A credit card surcharge may apply to transactions made using your credit card.

​Making payment in Australia

Fees may be paid​ at any of our offi​ces in Australia. Once the fee has been paid, you will need to provide a copy of the receipt with your application.​​​

Citizenship

Applications for Citizenship by Descent can be lodged at this office.​​​​

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​

If you are in Ghana you can lodge your application for Citizenship by Descent at the Australian Visa Application Centre.

​Applications for Australian citizenship general eligibility and other situations, and applications to resume or renounce (give up) Australian citizenship should be lodged at the Canberra Visa and Citizenship office in Australian Capital Territory​.

Citizens and non-citizens: Apply to the address above.
Provide: A formal request letter seeking issuance of a police certificate for migrations purposes; a copy of your identity document (national ID card, ARRA refugee registration or passport); 3 x passport sized photos; your original fingerprints (taken in Ethiopia or in the country of current residence for non-residents); and processing fee.
Processing time: Approximately ten days for residents and four weeks for non-residents.
