The Australian Embassy in Mexico City has no visa function. Our office in Ottawa, Canada, manages visa and citizenship services for clients in Mexico, Belize, Costa Rica, Cuba, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua and Panama.

We have a Service Delivery Partner (SDP) agreement with CSRA to provide biometric collection services in Mexico through an Australian Biometric Collection Centre.

Credit card is the preferred payment option.

Credit Card​

Payments using credit card will be processed in Australian dollars (AUD). We accept MasterCard, Visa, AMEX, Diners and JCB. When paying by a credit card you may incur a credit card surcharge, banking and currency conversion fees and you will need to accept the risk associated with any currency fluctuations.​​​​​

Prior to lodging your application, you may need to notify your bank of an upcoming foreign credit card transaction. Failure to do so may result in your transaction being declined. Without payment your application is invalid.

Credit card transactions processed in Australian dollars (AUD) are processed in Australia.​​​​​ A credit card surcharge may apply to transactions made using your credit card.

For credit card payments use the Payment Details Form - 1440​.​​​​​

Money order or International bank draft

If you are paying by money order or international bank draft, you must make it payable to 'Australian High Commission' and payment must be in Canadian dollars.

​Making payment in Australia

Fees may be paid​ at any of our offi​ces in Australia. Once the fee has been paid, you will need to provide a copy of the receipt with your application.​​​


Citizenship​

Applications for Citizenship by Descent can be lodged at this office.​​​​

​Applications for Australian citizenship general eligibility and other situations, and applications to resume or renounce (give up) Australian citizenship should be lodged at the Canberra Visa and Citizenship office in Australian Capital Territory​.

Client residents: Apply in person for a penal clearance to the National Safety Commission (CNS).

Required documents:

  • Acta de nacimiento (Birth Certificate)
  • Official ID - Mexican driver licence, passport or Credencial de Elector (Mexican Voter’s card).

Non-citizen residents: Apply in person for a penal clearance to the National Safety Commission (CNS).

Required documents:

  • Original birth certificate.
    Birth certificate must be apostilled and translated into Spanish by an official translator.
  • Mexico's Multiple Immigration Form (FMM) or Mexican visa (FM1/FM2/FM3).
    Only if the client is currently residing in Mexico.

This process is free and completed on the spot within 20-30 mins, however, if there are special circumstances the client will need to wait 10 days to receive a penal clearance.

Citizen non-residents: Can appoint a power of attorney to someone to apply in person to CNS.

Required documents:

  • Birth certificate (Acta de nacimiento)
  • Power of Attorney (Carta poder simple)
  • Official ID - Mexican driver licence, passport or Credencial de Elector (Mexican voter's card.

Non-citizen non-residents: Can appoint a Power of Attorney to someone to apply in person to CNS.

Required documents:

  • Original birth certificate *Birth certificate must be apostilled and translated into Spanish by an official translator
  • Power of Attorney (Carta poder simple).

Processing time: Generally takes 2-3 weeks to process this request once all the required documents are submitted.
