Germany - Visa information and lodgement

This visa office provides immigration and visa services to clients in Germany and 19 other European countries, including: Denmark, Estonia, Faeroe Islands, Finland, Greece, Greenland, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands (the), Norway, Poland, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland and Vatican City.

Note: Albanian citizens residing in Greece may also lodge their applications at the Australian embassy in Belgrade.

Permanent entry visas

Partner, prospective marriage and child visa applications from applicants usually living in one of the countries in country coverage list above are lodged and processed in Berlin.

Applications for general skilled, business skills, Distinguished Talent (subclass 124), Former Resident (subclass 151) and parent subclasses are lodged and processed in Australia.

Refugee and Humanitarian visas

Clients from Europe whose application for a Refugee and Humanitarian (Class XB) visa is accompanied by a proposal form (form 681) must lodge their application at the department’s NSW Offshore Humanitarian Processing Centre.

This applies to people who are lodging a visa for consideration under the Global Special Humanitarian Program (SHP) or as an immediate family member.

Temporary entry visas

Visitor, working holiday, student and other temporary entry visa applications from applicants usually living in one of the countries in the country coverage list above, unless indicated below, are lodged and processed in Berlin.

Note: Albanian citizens residing in Greece may also lodge their applications at the Australian embassy in Belgrade.

Passport holders from Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Malta, Netherlands (the), Norway, Poland, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland and Vatican City who are travelling to Australia for up to three months for tourism or business purposes are eligible to apply online for an eVisitor.

Passport holders from Germany, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Italy, Malta, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Netherlands (the), Norway, Poland, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland and Vatican City who want to visit Australia for more than three months are eligible to apply online for a Visitor visa (subclass 600).

Passport holders from Germany, Denmark, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Italy, Liechtenstein, Malta, Netherlands (the), Norway, San Marino, Sweden, Switzerland and Vatican City are eligible to apply for an Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) through travel agents and airlines.

400 Temporary Work (Short Stay Activity) visa. Visa applicants may make paper applications at an Australian diplomatic mission, or an online application if they are eligible passport holders.

401 Temporary Work (Long-stay Activity) visa – Exchange, Sport and Religious Worker streams. Sponsorship and nomination applications are lodged and processed at the Hobart Office in Tasmania, attention Specialist Temporary Entry Centre. Visa applicants who are outside Australia must lodge their visa applications at an Australian diplomatic mission. 401 Temporary Work (Long-stay Activity) visa – Domestic Worker (Executive) stream. Sponsorship, nomination and visa applications are lodged and processed at the Canberra office in Australian Capital Territory - attention Specialist Temporary Entry Centre.

402 Training and Research visa – Research stream. Sponsorship applications are lodged and processed at the Hobart office in Tasmania - attention Specialist Temporary Entry Centre. Visa applicants who are outside Australia must lodge their visa applications at an Australian diplomatic mission. Paper applications for the Sponsored Family stream of the Visitor (subclass 600) visa must be lodged in Australia. These applications will be processed at one of the Sponsored Family Visitor processing centres below.

Temporary Work (Skilled) (subclass 457)​ sponsorship, nomination and visa applications must be lodged online. These applications will be processed at one of the Centres of Excellence in Australia.

If you are sponsored by an Australian employer, you must lodge your visa application at the same office in Australia where your employer lodged papers to support your application. Please ask your employer where they lodged these papers.​​​​​

Citizenship

Applications for Citizenship by Descent are processed by the Australian High Commission in London.

Applications for Australian citizenship general eligibility and other situations, and applications to resume or renounce (give up) Australian citizenship should be lodged at the Canberra office in Australian Capital Territory.

  • You have achieved a score of at least 5 in each of the four test components (speaking, reading, listening and writing) in an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) test that has been undertaken in the three years immediately prior to lodging the visa application.
  • You have achieved a score of at least 'B' in each of the four test components of an Occupational English Test (OET) that has been undertaken in the three years immediately prior to lodging the visa application.
  • You have achieved the following minimum test scores in each of the four test components: 4 for listening, 4 for reading, 14 for writing and 14 for speaking, in a Test of English as a Foreign Language internet-based test (TOEFL iBT) test that has been undertaken in the three years immediately prior to lodging the visa application.
  • You have achieved a test score of at least 36 in each of the four test components (speaking, reading, listening and writing) in a Pearson Test of English (PTE) Academic that has been undertaken in the three years immediately prior to lodging the visa application.
  • You have achieved a test score of at least 154 in each of the four test components (speaking, reading, listening and writing) in a Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE) test that was undertaken on or after 1 January 2015 and prior to lodging the visa application.

 

  • You hold a valid passport issued by the United Kingdom, the United States of America, Canada, New Zealand or the Republic of Ireland and you are a citizen of that country.
