Jordan - Visa information and lodgement

This visa office provides immigration and visa services to clients in Jordan and two other countries in the Middle East: Iraq and Syria.

Biometrics collection

All people, regardless of nationality, lodging paper-based visa applications in Jordan need to attend an Australian Visa Application Centre​ in person to lodge their application and provide their biometrics. A 10 digit fingerprint scan and a facial photograph will be collected.

Note: Clients lodging applications for Resident Return visas, Australian Declaratory visas and Australian Citizenship by Descent will not need to provide their biometrics.

Lodging a visa application

Clients from Iraq and Syria

All applications from Iraq or Syria (permanent, temporary and citizenship) should be posted or couriered to the Australian Embassy in Jordan. Post and courier applications from Iraq or Syria will not need to provide biometrics, as explained under 'Special procedures for Iraqi nationals'.

At an Australian Visa Application Centre

The department has an agreement with Teleperformance in Amman to provide Australian visa lodgement services in Jordan through an Australian Visa Application Centre. The Australian Visa Application Centre accepts applications for Australian visas. Clients can lodge their applications in person through the Australian Visa Application Centre.

Note: The Australian Visa Application Centre does not accept couriered or posted applications.

By post or courier to the Australian Embassy

Please ensure you have enclosed the appropriate visa application charge. Sponsors can also pay at any departmental office in Australia and include the official receipt with the application.

Note: Jordan clients who lodge applications directly with the Embassy will still need to go to the Australian Visa Application Centre to provide biometrics.

Exception: Applications for Resident Return visas, Australian Declaratory visas, Refugee and Humanitarian visas and Citizenship by Descent.

At the Australian Embassy in person

To lodge in person at the Australian Embassy you will need to make an appointment. Appointments are made by telephone.

Note: Jordan clients who lodge applications directly with the Embassy will still need to go to the Australian Visa Application Centre to provide biometrics.

Exception: Applications for Resident Return visas, Australian Declaratory visas, Refugee and Humanitarian visas and Citizenship by Descent.

Permanent entry visas

Partner, prospective marriage and child visa applications from applicants usually living in one of the countries in country coverage list above are processed in Amman.

Applications for general skilled, business innovation and investment, Distinguished Talent (subclass 124), Former Resident (subclass 151) and parent subclasses are lodged and processed in Australia.

Refugee and Humanitarian visas

Applications for a Refugee and Humanitarian (Class XB) visa accompanied by a proposal form (form 681 or 1417) should be lodged at the Special Humanitarian Processing Centre in Melbourne.

This applies to people who are lodging a visa application for consideration under the Global Special Humanitarian Program (SHP) or as an immediate family member.

All other Refugee and Humanitarian applications should be directed to the closest immigration office outside Australia​.

Temporary entry visas

The information below gives the lodgement arrangements for temporary entry visas. For more detailed information refer to the relevant subclass visa pages on how to apply. Unless indicated below temporary entry visa applications from the countries listed above are lodged, processed and decided in Amman.

Temporary Work (Short Stay Specialist) visa (subclass 400) - Visa applicants will need to lodge an online application

Temporary Work (International Relations) visa (subclass 403) - Sponsorship (if required) and visa applicants can lodge an online application.

Training visa (subclass 407) - Sponsorship, nomination and visa applications will need to lodge an online application.

Temporary Work Activity visa (subclass 408) - Sponsorship and visa applications will need to lodge an online application.

Paper applications for the Sponsored Family stream of the Visitor (subclass 600) visa must be lodged in Australia. These applications will be processed at one of the Sponsored Family Visitor processing centres below.

Temporary Work (Skilled) (subclass 457)​ sponsorship, nomination and visa applications must be lodged online. These applications will be processed at one of the Centres of Excellence in Australia.

If you are sponsored by an Australian employer, you must lodge your visa application at the same office in Australia where your employer lodged papers to support your application. Please ask your employer where they lodged these papers.​​​​​

Citizenship

Applications for Citizenship by Descent can be lodged at the Australian Embassy Amman or at the Australian Visa Application Centre.

Applications for Australian citizenship general eligibility and other situations, and applications to resume or renounce (give up) Australian citizenship should be lodged at the Canberra office in Australian Capital Territory.

Special procedures for Iraqi nationals

Applicants from Iraq may find it difficult to travel to Amman to obtain visa, immigration and citizenship services. All application forms can be downloaded from the department's website.

Applicants are strongly encouraged to provide their phone contact details at time of lodgement. If an interview is required after the lodgement of the application, the Embassy will make the necessary arrangements to conduct the interview and arrange for health checking.​​​​​​
