A student visa is usually granted for up to five years, but it could be longer under some circumstances.
We might consider granting a student visa for longer than five years where:
- a student is studying a medical or architectural degree that could take up to six years to complete
- there is reasonable course progression, for example where each course is a pre-requisite or foundation for the next course in the package.
Postgraduate students are granted an additional six months past their course end date on their Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE) to allow for interactive thesis marking.
For primary school-aged students, a maximum visa grant period of two years will generally be applied. More information is available on the
schools sector page.
