Refugee or humanitarian programme visa processing times

The table below details the indicative service standards for visas to resettle in Australia as a Refugee or under the Special Humanitarian Programme.
Note: We aim to process 75 per cent of applications within these service standards, however, actual processing times may vary depending on a range of factors.
See: Service standards

Application TypeProcessing Time
Offshore Humanitarian
(Subclass 200, 201, 202, 204)
You can expect us to finalise humanitarian visa applications within 12 months.
Note: Currently, high numbers of applications and a limited number of Special Humanitarian Programme places mean that it may take several years for 'split family' applications to be decided.
Protection visa (subclass 866)

You can expect us to finalise onshore applications within 12 months

Temporary Protection Visas (TPV) and Safe Haven Enterprise Visas (SHEV) (Subclass 785 and 790) You can expect us to finalise TPV and SHEV applications within 6 months of the date of application lodgement to finalisation (excluding periods where factors outside our control delay finalisation). Meeting this standard is assisted by the provision of identity documents and responding promptly to correspondence.
