What if I don’t have a passport?

Applying in Australia: you should ask your case officer for advice.

Applying outside Australia: you need to take one of the following to your examination:

  • a national identity card and a photocopy of your passport photo page that has been certified by the department or an Australian Visa Application Centre
  • a document from us showing which health examinations you need to have and a copy of your passport photo page that has been certified by the department or an Australian Visa Application Centre
  • a national identity card and a document from us showing which health examinations you need to have.

National identity cards from the following countries are acceptable:

  • Albania
  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Canada
  • China (where verified by ID5)
  • Croatia
  • Czech Republic
  • Egypt
  • France
  • Germany
  • Hong Kong
  • Hungary
  • Italy
  • Malaysia
  • Netherlands
  • Pakistan
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Russia (an internal passport is considered equivalent to a national identity card)
