What should I do if I have already lodged a family stream visa application and my sponsor is a former illegal maritime arrival (IMA) on a permanent visa?

If you have lodged a family stream visa application and you are sponsored by an IMA who holds a permanent visa, such as a Protection visa (subclass 866), your application will not be processed further until all non-IMA sponsored applications are finalised. This will delay processing of your application for several years. This is the case even if you have already completed DNA tests, and health and security checks.

If your sponsor has now become an Australian citizen, please advise the department using Form 1022 Notification of changes in circumstances.
